The SOA publishes past written-answer exams with model solutions and examiner commentary for FSA exams and for ALTAM/ASTAM. For multiple-choice ASA exams it releases official sample questions and, for some exams, retired papers. Actuarium does not reproduce copyrighted papers; use the official archive plus the original practice set here.
Sittings worth mining
2023–2025 ASTAM
Full papers and model solutions; questions are long and multi-part.
STAM 2018–2022 (MC)
Useful for loss-model drills though the format differs.
Recurring question patterns
- Multi-part loss model: fit, modify coverage, compute a risk measure.
- Bayesian/Bühlmann–Straub estimate with an interpretation question.
- Reserving triangle with chain ladder, BF and a Mack standard error.
- Reinsurance structure comparison (quota share vs XoL) on expected loss and variance.
The practice tab reproduces these patterns with original numbers — work a pattern here, then confirm against the official paper.
